Carla D. Nunez is a Dominican artist and illustrator currently living in the New England area. Carla is pursuing her BFA degree in illustration at Maine College of Art and will be graduating in May 2019. Carla’s work is primarily digital, yet she also loves working with watercolors and gouache. Through a wide interest in art history, Latin American history, postcolonial theory, and the exploration of Latinx identity; Carla’s work explores the beauty and nostalgia of childhood experiences. In exploring the past, Carla hopes to generate conversations about identity and self-making within diasporic societies. Carla D. Nunez has done an internship at Able Baker art gallery and has served as a mentor for young adults in public art workshops. Some of her hobbies and interests include: taking care of her pets, admiring flowers, breathing, meditating, and reading Maya Angelou's poetry.
